The independent MP and former resigned from his parliamentary office member of the Conservative parliamentary group Imran Ahmad Khan.
Kahn, 48, was convicted earlier this week of sexually abusing a 15-year-old boy. According to the indictment, in January 2008 at a party he organized first of all pushed the 15-year-old to consume alcohol. He later dragged him to the upper apartments of the house where the party was being held, then asked him to watch porn movies and in the end abused him.
Initially, the victim did not want to go to court and report the incident to the police from the first moment. But when Ahmad Khan was elected Conservative MP in 2019, he filed a lawsuit against him. In the meantime, according to information, he had informed the party which to this day declares complete ignorance of this complaint.
Kahn tried with his fingernails and teeth to keep the story out of the limelight as his lawyers claim, his life is in danger since his religion explicitly prohibits homosexuality and alcohol consumption. He still denies the allegations and has stated that he will appeal to the court of appeals. That is why, as he claims, he resigned in order to “fully dedicate himself to proving his innocence”, as he emphasizes, among other things, in his announcement.
In his constituency, Wakefield in the north of England, by-elections will be held to elect a new MP. It is a seat that the Labor Party has had since 1930 and only in the last electoral contest in 2019 did the Conservatives manage to win it. Following the fines imposed by the metropolitan police on the British Prime Minister, and the Minister of Finance Risi Sunak for their participation in the so-called “Downing Street coronation party”, the elections in this district will be another challenge for both Boris Johnson and the Conservatives.
Kahn was forced to resign as Conservative MP in June and thus became independent. After his first-instance conviction, he was expelled from the party.
