Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked the Ukrainian people for 50 days of resistance to the invasion of the Russian army.
“Thank God, the armed forces of Ukraine, our people – we have defended most of our country,” Zelensky said in a recorded speech downloaded from the Telegram platform.
“Our 50 days of defense is an achievement. “An achievement of millions of Ukrainians,” the head of state insisted. He said he remembered the first day of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine: “To put it mildly, no one was convinced we would survive.”
Many urged him to leave, he continued. “They advised us to surrender de facto to tyranny”, but they did not know “how brave the Ukrainians are” and how much they value freedom “to live as we want”. At the same time, he thanked all those who support Ukraine.
He also said that after these 50 days he sees many foreign leaders differently. He praised the “great generosity” of some, even though their countries are not rich, the determination of others, who did not take them seriously. At the same time he stigmatized the behavior of some leaders who gave him the impression, he said, that they are powerless.
