The ceremony of the Good Friday of the Catholics began a little while ago, in the Colosseum, with the representation of the street of the Martyrdom of Jesus.
In fourteen stops – in total – more than seventy people will carry the wooden cross. Among them, members of Italian families, one Russian and one Ukrainian.
At the thirteenth stop of the Via Crucis, the cross will be lifted, together with their families, by Irina and Albina, two nurses from Ukraine and Russia, who work in Rome. “And in such a dramatic situation, the only way is to forgive, we have to give it to ourselves,” Albina told Rai TV shortly before the religious ceremony began. “Many Ukrainians live in Russia, and many Russians in Ukraine. “It is definitely a tragedy for both our peoples,” Irina added.
According to the APE-MPE from Wednesday, during the thirteenth stop of the representation of Martyriou Street, in the crowded area of ​​the Colosseum, the following text will be read, which expresses the agony, the anger, but also the search for hope. , by people living the nightmarish experience of war:
«Death all around, life that seems to lose value. Everything changes in a few seconds. The existence, the days, the care of the snow in Winter, going to pick up the children from school, work, hugs and friendships. ..All. Everything, suddenly, loses value. Where are you Lord? We want our lives back. Where did you hide? Why is all this happening? What is our pity? Why did you leave us? Why did you abandon our peoples? Why did you divide our families in this way? Why do we not have the appetite to live and dream? Why did our homelands become dark like Golgotha? The tears dried. Anger gave way to resignation. We know you love us, Lord, but we do not feel love, it drives us crazy. We wake up in the morning and for a few seconds we are happy, but immediately afterwards we remember how difficult it is to reconcile. Sir, where are you? Speak, in the silence of death and division, and teach us how to make peace, to be brothers, to rebuild, all that the bombs would like to destroy».
