Passengers at Boston Logan International Airport experienced confusion, panic and delays last Sunday following concerns about a suspicious package that sparked an evacuation and visit by the state police bombing team.
In a statement Sunday, Massachusetts State Police said its bomb team was called to Terminal A shortly after 4 p.m. after security personnel spotted a suspicious item in a bag during a check of checked baggage.
The video, which was shared on social media, shows dozens of people leaving the terminal as the voice of an airport official tells everyone to leave a safe checkpoint to be re-examined by Transportation Security agents.
“You have to go out, this is mandatory,” the man was heard saying, telling airport staff to evacuate the area as well.
A passenger described the chaos, telling NBC Boston that there was panic, with people running and leaving their belongings behind. He said he also saw a man fall during the confusion.
“Out of nowhere, I see the whole crowd, people shouting and screaming like it’s a movie scene,” said Nico Pisello. “Nobody knows what’s going on.”
In the end, police said the suspect turned out to be a PlayStation video game console.
According to the police, the PlayStation had a fault which caused “anomalies” when the console passed through the X-ray machine.
Finally, after almost an hour, the passengers were allowed to re-enter the terminal and board their flights.
