Canada will send more heavy artillery to Ukraine

by

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trindade announced on Tuesday that Ottawa would send more heavy artillery to the Ukrainian armed forces at the request of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

“We have been in close contact with President Zelensky since the beginning (during the Russian military invasion on February 24) and we are responding to what is very much needed,” Trinto told a news conference in New Brunswick.

“The most recent Ukrainian request to Canada is to send them heavy artillery, because of the phase in which the war is currently entering,” and the Canadian government will comply, he continued.

The Canadian Prime Minister said that more details will be made public in the coming days.

The United States announced on Tuesday that 18 heavy artillery pieces would be delivered to Ukraine “very soon,” according to Pentagon spokesman John Kerby.

Mr Trinto also announced the imposition of new sanctions, which target 14 more people close to Russian President Vladimir Putin, including two of his daughters. Any resources in the Canadian jurisdiction will be frozen and they will not be able to have any financial dealings in the country. The US and Britain announced identical sanctions a few days ago.
