by

Western sanctions “violate the rules of the World Trade Organization,” Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday.

Putin blamed the West that it imposes “illegal” restrictions on Russian companies. “These measures (including sanctions) run counter to the WTO principles, to which our European colleagues are constantly reiterating their commitment,” he said.

The West has imposed harsh sanctions on Russian assets and oligarchs in response to the invasion of Ukraine, which began on February 24. They were designed to pressure Putin to withdraw his forces from Ukraine.

It is noted that Canada imposed sanctions on his two daughters on Tuesday Russian presidentfollowing the example of other countries in recent weeks due to the “illegal and unjustified invasion of the Russian regime in Ukraine”.

Ottawa’s new sanctions target 14 “close associates,” including Vladimir Putin’s two daughters, the wife and daughter of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, and Russian oligarchs and their families.
