Over 7.7 million people have been displaced inside Ukraine due to the Russian invasion announced today, Holy Thursday, the International Organization for Migration (IOM). This means that about 17% of the Ukrainian population, ie one in six Ukrainians, has been displaced within the country. The majority of internal refugees – 60% – are women.
On April 5, the IOM had estimated the number of displaced at 7.1 million, ie 600,000 people were internally displaced in Ukraine in early April.
More than half of these people have reported lack of access to food.
H UN service Refugees report that an additional five million people have fled Ukraine so far, with the majority fleeing to Poland and the rest to neighboring countries (Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Moldova).
