THE Russia’s decision to shut down the Azovstal steel plant in Mariupol most likely shows the desire of the Russians to reduce the Ukrainian resistance in the city and to release Russian forces to deploy to other parts of eastern Ukraine, is the assessment of the British Ministry of Defense.
“A full ground attack by the Russians on the plant would likely result in significant Russian casualties, further reducing their overall combat effectiveness,” the latest London news release added.
In eastern Donbass the heavy bombardment and the fighting as Russia seeks to advance further to settlements such as Krasny Liman, Bukhavivka, Barnikove, Liman and Popasna as part of its plans for the region, the ministry said.
He also said that despite Russia’s renewed focus on Donbas, its forces are still suffering casualties in the conflict. To make up for lost time, the Russians are transporting non-functional equipment back to Russia for repairs.
In a post accompanied by a video on Twitter, the British Ministry of Defense also notes that Russia has sent many conscripts to Ukraine since the beginning of the war. “It is possible that many of them did not know that they were being sent to war until the day of the invasion,” he said.
