French elections: Macron ahead with 57%, shows latest poll

by

The French President, Emanuel Macronappears to have won 57% of the vote in the run-off French election on Sunday and is dominated by far-right rival Marine Le Pen, according to a poll by OpinionWay and Kea Partners on behalf of Les Echos and Radio Classic.

According to the poll, conducted on a sample of 2,329 respondents during the period April 20-22, the turnout in the second round is expected to reach 72%.

The margin of error of the poll is +/- 0.9 to 2 percentage points.

Hours before the French second round of voting opened, Emmanuel Macron gave an interview to France Inter radio, in which he called on EU states not to allow a new iron curtain to be raised on the European continent, adding that it was important to take into account the different views within the European bloc on Russia and the war in Ukraine.

In the same interview, Macron acknowledged that he could not, at least in part, quell anger in the country and that his far-right opponent, Marine Le Pen, was trying to harness some of that anger in her campaign.

“And here. “He is making some progress (…), he manages to take advantage of it”, said Macron.

Macron has increased his lead over Le Pen, after the televised confrontation, in which he is estimated to have prevailed.
