The spread of the unknown form of hepatitis affecting children under the age of 15 – mainly under the age of 10 – is beginning to reach alarming proportions as there are reports of cases in at least 15 countries, while the first death of a child was also reported.
The unknown form of hepatitis proves to be quite serious in some cases, while its early diagnosis and transport of the child to the hospital play an important role.
It is typical the case of a girl just 3 years old in Britainwho was literally saved at the last minute, while she had to undergo a liver transplant, donated by her father, as presented exclusively by Dailymail.
Alan Rainy, from Gravescent, Kent, UK, never thought of donating part of his liver to Lola Rose’s 3-year-old daughter, literally giving her the gift of a lifetime.
3-year-old Lola Rose was among 170 children in Britain who needed to be treated for severe hepatitis symptoms.
Examinations showed that the child’s liver was not functioning properly and he was transferred to King College Hospital, London. A few days later and while her body did not respond to the treatment, she showed deterioration. The doctors put the child in a coma and gave him hours of life, unless a donor is found immediately.
The father offered immediately, donated part of his liver and the child was saved after the 7-hour operation he underwent.
One month after the operation, Lola Rose has fully recovered and is a normal child.
“It was a decision between giving a part of my liver and seeing my daughter suffer and her life is in danger.”said the 27-year-old father, who works in a security company.
