The Philippine Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday that the first confirmed case of BA.2.12, a sub-variant of the Omicron variant of the new coronavirus, was detected this month, adding that the patient was a 52-year-old Finn who arrived in the country on April 2.
According to the ministry, the patient recovered and returned home on April 21st.
She was not asked to isolate herself in a special facility when she arrived, as she was fully vaccinated and asymptomatic.
He went to Manila and the city of Baggio (north) to “deliver seminars”, according to the ministry.
Nine days after her arrival, she felt mild symptoms, especially a headache and sore throat.
After the tests she underwent and the confirmation of the case, her contacts were tracked and nine asymptomatic close contacts were found. Two were tested with negative results.
Scientists are still studying whether subtype BA.2.12 is more contagious and whether it can cause a more severe form of COVID-19.
