The 44-year-old son of the author Paul Oster was found dead from drug abuse, nine days after his arrest with the accusation of the murder of his 10-month-old daughterRuby.

“Daniel Oster was found dead surrounded by drug paraphernalia and the dose was similar to what he usually took,” the New York Post reported, indicating that his death was an accident.

Oster was arrested on Easter Sunday for Ruby’s death on November 1. He was out on bail facing charges of manslaughter resulting from the death of just 10-month-old Ruby.

The chief medical examiner’s office concluded that the unfortunate child’s death was due to “acute poisoning due to the combined effect of fentanyl and heroin,” police told AFP.

Oster’s lawyer told the court that his client was sober and was in a detox center awaiting trial.

Daniel Oster already had problems with the police in 1996, when Andre “Angel” Melendez, an alleged drug trafficker, was assassinated.

Daniel Oster was not involved in the crime. He had pleaded guilty to possession of $ 3,000 stolen by Menendez and was sentenced to probation.

Two other people had pleaded guilty to killing Menendez and had confessed to dumping his body in the Hudson River.

Paul Oster is one of New York’s best-known authors, most notably for The New York Trilogy, The Moon Palace, and Leviathan.

In his novel “Oracle night”, published in 2003, the narrator is a writer whose son is a drug addict.

Paul Oster in 2017 was nominated for the Man Booker Award.
