Poland says it is ready to support Germany in “de-monopolizing” energy sources

by

Poland is ready to help Germany cut off the need to use Russian oil, Polish Climate and Environment Minister Anna Moskva said today, adding that she hoped an embargo on The European Union may enter into force before the end of the year.

Warsaw is in favor of tough measures against Russia, but with many EU countries heavily dependent on Moscow for their energy needs, the bloc appears divided over how to impose sanctions.

“As Poland, we are ready to support Germany’s ambitions to ‘de-Russify’ our Gdansk refinery.”, said Moscow. “I hope this will be the last voice that will … block these sanctions on oil.”

Russia cut off gas supplies to Bulgaria and Poland last week after those countries refused to comply with Moscow’s request to pay in rubles.

THE Moscow has previously said that EU member states that oppose tougher sanctions on gas imports from Russia are Austria, Germany and Hungary, and that the European bloc should punish countries that use rubles to pay for Russian gas.

The Polish minister added that Warsaw wants the Brussels set a clear expiration date for when Member States should stop importing Russian oil

“We want this (sanctions) package to include a very specific and clear date and requirement for all countries … that it should be a complete package with no gaps.”
