A man emerged alive today from the rubble of a building in China that collapsed three days earlier, state television reported, and hopes for survivors are slim.
The eight-storey building, which housed a hotel, apartments and a cinema, collapsed in the city on Friday. Changshain central China, for reasons that have not yet been clarified.
Today, the national television network CCTV eshowed pictures of a man wrapped in a thick white blanket on a stretcher. He is the eighth person to be pulled from the ruins of the building in three days.
Rescuers in blue uniforms were inside an ambulance preparing for transport to the hospital.
CCTV did not provide any information on the health of the eighth man found in the wreckage.
According to the official Chinese Xinhua news agency, rescuers had great difficulty rescuing the victim, a woman whose limbs were caught under the rubble.
The medical team used tubes nearly three meters long to give saline to the woman, according to the agency.
Rescuers, who continued the search to find any survivors, avoided using machinery to avoid vibrations in the damaged structure of the building.
Nearly fifteen people remain trapped, while another 39 cannot be found.
On Sunday, a seventh man was found by rescuers more than 50 hours after the start of the search.
A one-meter wall separated him from rescuers, who had spotted signs of life a little earlier, according to CCTV.
Rescuers had to go through the rubble. In particular, they used circular saws to free survivors.
Nine people, including the building’s owner, were arrested Sunday in connection with the case. They are suspected of forging a security check, according to Xinhua.
