Chelsea will be faced with an exclusion from the Premier League, if Roman Abramovich does not manage to close the “deal” for its acquisition soon.
According to the Daily Mail, the obstacle to this project is the loan of 1.6 billion pounds that must be repaid to the Russian oligarch in order for the process to proceed.
Abramovich initially claimed that he would write off the amount he had put into the club to facilitate the sale process. However, according to the British newspaper, this may not be possible due to the sanctions of the British government, which can modify the terms of the sanctions as and when it chooses.
For their part, the Times explained that the money will be given to Camberley International Investments, an offshore company based in Jersey, which is said to be associated with Abramovich and is a creditor of Fordstam Ltd, Chelsea’s parent. The Russian side claims that the 1.6 billion pounds were given as a loan.
According to the “Times”, Chelsea informed the government and the potential buyers that it wants to change the way the club will be bought and sold. So he expressed the desire to repay the debt.
In the midst of all this, Chelsea is operating as a club because the UK government has lifted it from sanctions until May 31, so that it can complete the season. Without the permission of the government, they can not operate: they can not sell tickets, pay players or recruit players. They can not even organize matches. They would essentially be liquidated and could not play at any level until some sort of agreement was reached.
Maybe the government is just extending the special permit? There is such a possibility, but on June 8 the Premier League has the Annual General Assembly in view of the first championship for the 2022-23 season.
If Chelsea do not take leave by then, they can not take their place in next season’s Premier League, nor can they be appointed by the FA as a representative of the Champions League or Europa League. And they can only be licensed with the permission of the government, which will only happen if they are sold.
