The US is convinced that can deal with any security concerns which may have the Sweden and Finland on the time period following the filing of their application for NATO membership and prior to the formal approval of the said request by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, in accordance with White House.
The two countries, worried that they will be vulnerable to Russian threatsduring the processing of their applications, the processing of which may take more than one year, for it to be approved by all thirty member states of the alliance.
«“We are confident that we can find ways to address any concerns that each of the two countries may have about the timeframe between applying for membership and formally joining the alliance.” said during a briefing, the White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki.
Both Sweden and Finland are expected to make decisions on this whether to apply for NATO membershipwithin the month.
The Swedish Foreign Minister If Linde said after a meeting she had with her US counterpart Anthony Blinken on Wednesday that she had received security guarantees from the US, without, however, disclosing further details.
Sweden’s defense minister said last month that an application may provoke a number of reactions from Russiaincluding cyber attacks, but also hybrid measures, such as propaganda campaigns to undermine the security of the country.
