Indonesia alert for acute hepatitis in children – 15 cases confirmed

THE World Health Organisation announced last week that it has received reports from 20 countries for at least 228 possible cases of childhood hepatitis or liver infection.

Buddy said Indonesia had identified 15 cases since a recent investigation into the disease began, adding that authorities had not identified the cause.

He did not say whether the 15 cases involved all children or what treatment they were receiving. A spokesman for the Ministry of Health was not immediately available for comment.

Some health professionals have linked the disease to an infection caused by someone adenoida family of common viruses that can cause flu-like or gastrointestinal symptoms.
