The Finnish newspaper article, according to which Russia may stop gas supplies in the country as of today, it seems to be false, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peshkov said today.

“It is more likely that this is another newspaper fraud,” he said Peshkov stressing that the Russian gas company Gazprom is still a reliable supplier.

The Iltalehti newspaper, citing unnamed sources, wrote on Thursday that Finnish politicians had received a warning that Russia may cut off gas supplies to their country from Friday, that is today.

Gazprom did not respond to a request for comment.

“Gazprom supplies gas to various customers, including NATO members. “Gazprom has proven its credibility many times,” Peshkov said, adding that there were no plans to cut off gas supplies to Finland today.

Finnish President Sauli Niinisto and Prime Minister Sana Marin said on Thursday that the country would apply “without delay”. its accession to NATO, with Russia pledging to respond to this move.

On May 5, the Finnish government said it was preparing for the possibility of Russia suspending deliveries later this month over Helsinki ‘s refusal to pay for gas in rubles.

Most of Finland’s natural gas comes from Russia. However, natural gas accounts for only 5% of the country’s annual energy consumption.
