DiscoverEU: 35,000 young people get a travel pass

By first round of the DiscoverEU program under the Erasmus + program, 35,000 18-year-olds were selected to travel across Europe. From this year, in fact, DiscoverEU is part of the program Erasmus +. With this change and thanks to emergency funding secured in the framework of the European Youth Year 2022, in 2022 a total of 70,000 travel passes will be issued. For the first time, young men and women from Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Northern Macedonia, Serbia and Turkey were able to submit Applicationas these countries participate in the Erasmus + program.

THE Maria GabrielCommissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth said: “The DiscoverEU experiment created a community with strong values, respect for European culture and a spirit open to new friendships and experiences. I am particularly pleased that this year we were able to open this initiative to young people from more than one country, as we wholeheartedly support the importance of positive intercultural exchanges.». The selection process closed on April 21, 2022 having attracted 69,000 young men and women.

Those who were selected will be informed shortly and will be able to travel for a maximum of 30 days in the period from 1 July 2022 to 30 June 2023. They will have the support of national Erasmus + organizations, which hold pre-departure briefings across Europe. Participants will also receive the new DiscoverEU discount cardwhich provides access to over 40,000 discounted rates on accommodation, food, culture and other services.

In October, the Commission plans to launch the next round of applications, during which applications for another 35,000 travel passes can be submitted.
