The President of the USA Joe Biden signed into law a $ 40 billion bailout package on Saturday, for Ukraine.
A few days ago, the bill was approved by a large majority in Congress and was forwarded to the White House to be signed by the US president.
This aid package includes a humanitarian component, but also an armament. Last week it received approval from the House of Representatives.
Including $ 6 billion is expected to be released so that Ukraine can equip itself with armored vehicles and strengthen its air defenses at a time when fighting is raging in its southern and eastern provinces. About $ 9 billion will also be given to ensure “the continued functioning of democratic institutions”.
By mid-March, Congress had already released about $ 14 billion to address the Ukraine crisis. But President Biden has been calling for a major budget change for weeks to support Ukraine in this new phase of the war.
Biden, who is in Seoul for the first time since South Korean President Yoon-suk Geol took office 11 days ago, also signed a bill aimed at improving access to baby milk, the White House said.
