The importance of the Asia-Europe partnership and the need to strengthen cooperation was emphasized by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who participated in the 13th Summit of the “Europe-Asia Meeting” (ASEM), which is being held online.

During his speech, the Prime Minister focused on the global challenge of the Climate Crisis and presented our country’s initiatives for green transformation and sustainable development both nationally and internationally. He made special reference to the initiative for energy “clean” islands (GR-eco islands initiative), as well as the establishment of an autonomous Ministry of Climate Crisis.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis also referred to the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding for the Greek-Egyptian electricity interconnection, and stressed that this agreement turns Greece into a green energy hub.

The Prime Minister praised the geostrategic position of our country and stressed that Greece can be a gateway to the European market for green hydrogen produced in the Middle East and North Africa. In addition, it focused on the leading role of Greek-owned shipping in world trade and, in particular, on the Asia-Europe interconnection.

It should be noted that the ASEM Summit is attended every two years by the leaders of 51 European and Asian countries representing 60% of the world’s population, 65% of world GDP, 55% of world trade and 70% of world tourism. This year, it was organized by Cambodia and had as its main theme the strengthening of multilateral cooperation for common development.
