Twitter announced on Wednesday (22) that it is testing a new tool that allows users to share long texts as a link on and off the social network.
The company also said that the newsletter company Revue, acquired last year, will be integrated with Twitter Write along with a tool called “Notes”.
The tool is being tested by a group of writers and can be used in most countries, according to the platform.
Today, the limit for texts on the social network is 280 characters, twice what it was initially. Twitter, founded in 2006, was updated primarily through SMS messages, and was based on the 140-character limit of a cell phone text message (160 rings, including 20 for the username).
Despite the limitation, users of the social network have explored a resource to circumvent the 280 characters: the threads, or threads, which became popular on the platform and bring together long texts divided into a sequence of tweets are sequences of grouped posts.
The announcement comes at a time when Twitter is struggling to gain new users. In April, it announced that it had user growth in the fourth quarter below market expectations.
To attract new users and advertisers, the platform has been betting on new projects, such as audio chat rooms and newsletters. Even so, the quarter’s results raised doubts about the company’s plan, as analysts expected faster signs of progress.
