by

The boom in travel insurance, which has been growing in recent months, has helped boost the personal insurance market. Between January and September, the sector accumulated almost R$ 38 billion, almost 15% above the same period in 2020, according to Fenaprevi (National Federation of Private Pension and Life).

With the resumption of tourism in Brazil and the gradual liberalization of borders, the demand for travel insurance rose 277% in September compared to the same month in 2020.

Individual life insurance collected more than R$7 billion in the year, around 28% above that registered in the same period in 2020, while group life reached almost R$10 billion, 9.4% more.

According to Fenaprevi, insurers have paid around R$5.5 billion in compensation for deaths by Covid-19 to people with life insurance since the pandemic began. Altogether, there were nearly 150 thousand claims, with the majority, 116 thousand, this year.

Among the other insurances that have advanced are credit life, which guarantees the payment of debts and yielded R$ 11.8 billion in premiums for the year, personal accident coverage, with R$ 5.07 billion, and for serious illnesses , with R$1.03 billion.
