Bank workers protest in front of Caixa and ask for Guimarães’ resignation; see photos

Bank workers held an act in front of the Caixa Econômica Federal headquarters, in Brasília, this Wednesday (28) asking for the departure of Pedro Guimarães from the presidency of the bank after the allegations of sexual harassment.

Union leaders claim, however, that the protest ended up being emptied because Caixa employees were afraid to participate.

“Yesterday, we were here launching the national campaign [salarial] of bank employees and today the flow has decreased a lot, which leads me to believe that the pressure inside the building is much greater and people are afraid to approach”, said Maria Gaia, director of the Federation of Bank Employees of the Center-North.

Bank women and federal deputies who participated in the mobilization put a tape over their mouths with the word “harassed” and shouted “Fora Guimarães”.

Fenae (National Federation of Employees Associations of Caixa Econômica Federal) distributed roses to bank employees.

The federation’s president, Sérgio Takemoto, stated that the objective was to show solidarity with women and encourage them to denounce episodes of harassment.

“The issue of moral harassment and sexual harassment is unfortunately the keynote of this management. We are here to offer solidarity to the women who denounced this absurd behavior by the president of our company.”

A survey carried out by Fenae showed that six out of ten Caixa employees have already suffered moral harassment. The survey, released in February, surveyed 1,704 employees of the Pedro Guimarães management.

6% of employees, according to the same survey, were away from work due to medical leave: 33% due to depression, 26% due to anxiety, 13% due to Burnout and 11% due to Panic Disorder.

During this Wednesday’s protest, bank employees classified Guimarães’ management as “sickening” and said that reports of moral harassment are common.

Pedro Guimarães ignored the complaints and took his wife to a closed bank event on the Safra Plan this Wednesday. The ceremony took place in the Caixa Cultural building, in front of the headquarters – where the protest took place.

Guimarães thanked the presence of his wife, Manuella Pinheiro Guimarães, mentioned his children and said he had a life guided by ethics. In the end, she showed the company badge.

The allegations of harassment against the president of Caixa Econômica Federal were revealed this Tuesday (28) by the Metrópoles portal.

A bank employee, who asked to have her name withheld for fear of retaliation, told Sheet who was in shock after Guimarães pulled her by the neck and said he “was really excited” for her.
