Pianist Carla Ruaro, with her project to carry pianos into the Amazon, announces that she has obtained a donation of 20 instruments in London and wants to transport them to Brazil to take the music to riverside communities.
With a piano, she has visited destinations that don’t even have the energy to turn on an electronic keyboard.
Ruaro started this Thursday (8th) to raise funds and partners for the new phase of his project, which in 2017 accommodated an instrument inside a boat and went traveling along the Tapajós and Arapiuns rivers, in Pará. The funds are being raised through a crowdfunding and sponsorship campaign.
At the time, the expedition became a documentary, awarded in Brazil and abroad, and now it will be remade in an expanded route, from Belém to Manaus, with a feature film.
The repertoire takes the music of contemporary composers from the Amazon.
“There are pianos left in England because there were a lot of factories from the 18th century, especially in London. It was part of the culture. Over time, the properties became small and families donated. They are kept in warehouses, with a cost to store” , says Ruaro.
