Six trade union centrals unanimously and without restriction approved the adhesion to one of the manifestos in favor of democracy, a document that is being organized by business entities and other class representatives.
On the morning of this Thursday (28), the meeting was attended by leaders of the CUT (Central Única dos Trabalhadores), Força Sindical, UGT (União Geral dos Trabalhadores), CTB (Central dos Trabalhadores e Trabalhadores do Brasil), Intersindical (Central Worker) and the NCST (New Workers Union Central).
The meeting took place at UGT’s headquarters, in the center of São Paulo. The CSB (Central dos Unions Brasileiros) did not attend, but confirmed its signature, and only Conlutas (Central Sindical e Popular Conlutas) has not yet commented on participation.
The representatives discussed whether it would be convenient for the centrals to adhere to the entities’ manifesto. The text, entitled “In Defense of Democracy and Justice”, is expected to be published on August 11, and will be signed by Fiesp (Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo) and Febraban (federation that brings together the banks). It will be read at an event scheduled on the same day, at the USP Law School (University of São Paulo).
The centrals, in the end, understood that it is a manifesto in defense of elections and the Democratic State of Law. These centrals together represent more than 60 million workers in the country.
On Tuesday (26), Fiesp had already confirmed to the Sheet their participation in the text prepared by the entities, which should be published in the main newspapers in the country. The content of the manifest is still being discussed among the associations.
The document is expected to have five paragraphs and be written in a milder tone than a manifesto by former students of the USP Law School, “Letter to Brazilians and Brazilians in Defense of the Democratic State of Law”, published on the website of college also on Tuesday and already passing 100 thousand signatures.
The centrals should schedule a meeting to discuss the issue with the president of Fiesp, Josué Gomes da Silva. They say that they will also ask the organizers of the letter from USP alumni to be able to sign the document institutionally, even if part of the directors have already signed the document individually.
The two manifestos will be read at ceremonies on August 11, in Largo de São Francisco, where the USP Law School is located.
The first ceremony should have businessmen and other representatives of civil society, at 10 am, in the Salão Nobre, when the manifesto of business entities and associations will be read. In the other, at 11:30 am, the manifesto “Letter to Brazilians” will be read.
