Government allows inclusion of six mining projects in PPI

A committee coordinated by the Ministry of Mines and Energy enabled six new mining projects in the Strategic Pro-Mineral Policy, allowing them to become part of the PPI (Investment Partnership Program) portfolio, the folder said on Tuesday (30).

By integrating the PPI, they are treated as a national priority. The bodies and entities involved must act so that the processes and acts necessary for structuring, releasing and executing the project occur efficiently and economically.

Qualified investment projects are the Santa Quitéria Project (phosphate and uranium), by INB (Nuclear Industries of Brazil) in partnership with the Galvani Group; Mina Tucano Project (gold), by Mina Tucano; Retiro Project (titanium and zirconite), by Rio Grande Mineração; Sereno Project (manganese), by the RMB Group, Volta Grande Project (gold), by Belo Sun, and Boa Esperança Project (copper), by Mineração Caraíba.

The ministry highlighted that since the beginning of its activity, in May 2021, the CTAPME (Interministerial Committee for the Analysis of Strategic Minerals Projects) has already authorized 12 mining projects in the Pro-Minerais Policy.

Based on information from the companies involved, the investment potential is estimated at over R$40 billion.

20 thousand jobs are expected during implementation, and more than 15 thousand during operations, according to the ministry. Four projects analyzed by the committee were not qualified because they did not meet the requirements, and must be filed.

“Environmental agencies remain fully responsible for conducting and deciding on the environmental licensing processes of qualified projects”, highlighted the ministry, pointing out that it is up to the CTAPME to define, for purposes of PPI support with public agencies, the mining projects considered relevant for the production of strategic minerals in the country.
