The Armani Group announced this Wednesday (1st) that it will no longer use angora wool from the fall/winter season of 2023, adding it to the list of materials excluded by its anti-fur policy.
The Italian luxury company joins a number of brands that are scrapping the extremely soft wool of live rabbits due to pressure from animal rights organizations and more eco-conscious customers.
Last month, Peta (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) announced that the luxury digital commerce platform Farfetch will no longer sell angora wool as of April 2022.
Years ago, the organization launched a campaign to ban angora wool, which is mainly produced in China, describing the techniques used to skin rabbits as cruel.
Armani’s decision marks another step towards sustainability, as the group banned animal skins in 2016 and three years later signed the “Fashion Pact” with other big names in the industry to address climate change, the company said in an announcement.
