The next cities to receive 5G will be Florianópolis, Palmas, Rio de Janeiro and Vitória, which should happen until August 29, according to Anatel. In the capital of Rio de Janeiro, the connection should debut next Monday (22).

The Gaispi (Follow-up Group for the Implementation of Solutions for Interference Problems) will meet this Thursday morning (18) to discuss the next steps in the implementation of 5G in the country.

Faced with the difficulties of implementing systems in other capitals, Moisés Moreira, who presides over Gaispi, will ask, this week, for authorization from Anatel’s board of directors to have autonomy in possible postponements.

The capitals with possible delays are Recife, Fortaleza, Natal, Aracaju, Maceió, Teresina, São Luís, Campo Grande, Cuiabá, Porto Velho, Rio Branco, Macapá, Boa Vista, Manaus and Belém.

The request, according to Moreira, will provide for approval for postponements of up to two months, which will put the maximum period for deploying 5G in the 27 capitals to the end of November. According to the original plan, all should have the service implemented by the end of July.

Curitiba, Goiânia and Salvador received 5G this Tuesday (16) after the release of the 3.5 GHz frequency band by Anatel (National Telecommunications Agency).

Rio de Janeiro was part of the group, but was withdrawn after a report from the agency’s technical area showed the impossibility of installing filters to avoid interference in time for the Gaispi meeting that took place last Friday (12).

With the arrival in the three cities, the country has eight capitals with technology. The first was Brasília, on June 6, followed by Belo Horizonte, João Pessoa, Porto Alegre and São Paulo.

Claro, Vivo and TIM confirmed the activation of their 5G networks in the three cities.

In Salvador, TIM said that coverage reaches 77 neighborhoods. Claro’s reaches 15 and Vivo’s 16. In Goiânia, TIM covers 130 neighborhoods. Vivo, 14, and Claro, 11. In Curitiba, TIM said it offers coverage to all 75 neighborhoods in the city, which covers 85% of the population. Vivo covers 13 and Claro, 6.
