Europe in the grip of inflationary pressures: New record inflation in the Eurozone at 8.9%

At 9.8% annual inflation in the EU – Inflation in Greece is 11.3%, i.e. a marginal decrease from 11.6% in June.

According to Eurostat, annual inflation in the euro area hit a new record, reaching 8.9% in July of 2022, from 8.6% in June. In comparison, last year, it was no better the 2.2%. The annual inflation of the European Union was 9.8% in July 2022, up from 9.6% in June. A year earlier, this percentage was just 2.5%.

The lowest annual inflation rates were recorded in France and Malta (from 6.8%) and Finland (8.0%). The highest annual rates were recorded in Estonia (23.2%), Latvia (21.3%) and Lithuania (20.9%). Compared to June, annual inflation fell in six Member States, remained stable in three and rose in 18.

Inflation recorded 11.3% inflation in GREECEi.e. a marginal decrease from June’s 11.6%.

As expected, in the wake of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, in July the largest burden on the annual inflation rate of the euro area came from the energy (+4.02%), followed by food, alcohol and tobacco (from +2.08%), services (+1.60%) and non-energy industrial goods (+1.16%).
