In his letter to the Minister of Education and Religious Affairs, Niki Kerameos, the deputy governor of Chania proposes the institution of financial aid for students of the remote islands where there are no high schools or high schools. Nikos Kalogeris.

The document was drawn up on the occasion of the rejection of a request by the ministry for the operation of a high school, for two students on the island of Gavdoua decision with which, as Mr. Kalogeris points out, “we also do not disagree for academic and pedagogical reasons”, stressing, however, that “we are of the opinion that the institution of financial aid is required for the students of the critical islands in which there are no they operate middle schools and high schools, in order to support their families so that the children can continue their education.

You realize the difficult economic – and not only – position that families find themselves in, since either as a whole or individually the students have to move to an area that operates a high school in order to continue the educational process that is mandatory by law.”

“Estimating that the cost of a financial aid of the order of 500 euros per month for each student is much less than what would be required for the establishment of high schools and high schools in the Acritian islands, please consider its institutionalization as soon as possible so that the parents to prepare in time for the next school year. We consider that the overall fiscal burden will be very low, given that the measure concerns several dozen children per year”, concludes the Chania vice-regional governor in his document.
