The low price of energy and the surplus production of Itaipu have generated in a small town in Paraguay a race for cryptocurrency mining — a computerized process that uses a lot of electricity.

Villarrica has 60,000 inhabitants and 30,000 computers dedicated to the new cryptomining business, which arrived in the city just two years ago.
