Petrobras is the leader in dividends
In a quarter marked by the record payment of dividends at a global level, Petrobras was the company listed on the Stock Exchange that most distributes profits to shareholders in the period, according to a report by manager Janus Henderson.
In numbers: From $544.8 billion (R$ 2.8 trillion) distributed from April to June, the state-owned company was responsible for BRL 48.5 billion. The overall increase in dividends over the previous year was 11.3%.
- The surge in oil prices in the year made the sector linked to the commodity contribute more than two-fifths of the growth in distributed value.
- Banks, freed from pandemic-era dividend restrictions, also made the same contribution. Another prominent segment was that of car manufacturers, the report points out.
the high prices of commodities raised emerging market dividends by 22.5%which made them outperform all other regions for the first time since 2015.
Reviews: the record dividends announced by Petrobras at the end of the 2nd quarter encouraged investors and especially the government, its main shareholder, but were also viewed with reservations by analysts.
- In their view, the excess cash could be earmarked for the company’s investment in revenue diversification and focused on the energy transition.
Inflation preview has biggest drop since 1991
The IPCA-15 (inflation preview) in August registered a deflation of 0.73%, the lowest rate of the historical series started in November 1991, informed this Wednesday (24) the IBGE.
in numbers: the market median was of even greater deflation, of 0.82%. In the 12-month period, the preview of inflation returns to the single-digit level – 9.60%. The last time this happened was in August of last year.
What pulled the index down: transport (-5.24%) and housing (-0.37%), which had already brought down July inflation. In the August preview, the communication also retreated (-0.30%).
- The three groups that fell were influenced by the tax reduction brought about by the ICMS ceiling on fuel, energy, transport and telecommunications.
Villain: food inflation continues to worry. In the IPCA-15 of August, the food and beverage group rose the most (1.12%).
The IPCA-15, as it is released earlier, signals a price trend. It is usually calculated between the second half of the previous month and the first half of the reporting month.
- The full index for the month of August will be released on September 9 and should also register deflation. The market expectation is that the IPCA will end the year at 6.82%.
uneven: the preview of accumulated inflation in 12 months was still above double digits in 4 of the 11 capitals and metropolitan regions surveyed by the IBGE in August.
Government unlocks IPI cut
The Jair Bolsonaro government (PL) published a decree this Wednesday that shields goods manufactured in the Manaus Free Zone from the IPI cut and, thus, unlocks the linear reduction of 35% about the other products.
Understand: this is the fourth decree issued by the government to cut the IPI. The last two were judicialized and limited after a decision by Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF, because it would reduce the differential of the Manaus Free Trade Zone, which is exempt from IPI on goods produced there.
What changes: are 170 products manufactured in the industrial pole that will have a different rate from others 4,000 items. Among the goods that were left out of the cut are:
- Soft drink syrup, lighter, battery charger, razor, cash register, wristwatch, ballpoint pen and dishwasher.
Break in accounts: the Ministry of Economy still calculates the impact of cutting 35% over 4,000 items. In the accounts of the previous decree, when 61 products from the Free Zone had been left out, the estimated impact was BRL 15.6 billion.
What does Magalu want with games?
Magazine Luiza announced this Wednesday the launch of its first three mobile games, in another step by the company in the world of games.
Understand: Orbits, DeathTrapNite and SpeedBox are free and hypercasual games — with simple mechanics — and are available for download from the Apple and Google app stores.
They were chosen in a public notice at the end of last year in conjunction with the BIG Festival gaming event. Magalu’s initial investment in the studios was R$100,000, but the company said it put more money in later.
What does Magalu want with games? At first, the games could serve as a source of revenue from the ads and transactions made within them, but the company’s plan goes well beyond that.
In the plans: to make all this wheel turn, the company looks to the future to enter more complex segments, such as consoles and PC games.
- For this, an internal studio will be created to develop the games in-house.
