“The messages we receive from the tour operators are very encouraging, there is demand for travel packages for the whole autumn and even for December,” said the Minister of Tourism
The Minister of Tourism spoke about the hard and collective effort that started last fall, resulting in the revenues from this year’s tourist season exceeding expectations and giving a boost to the country’s development. Vassilis Kikiliasin an interview he gave to the newspaper “Kefalaio”.
“When on March 7th I was welcoming to “Eleftherios Venizelos”, the first direct flight from the USA, earlier than ever, few believed that Greece would have a successful tourist season. It was the first days of the war in Ukraine, the pandemic was continuing and the energy crisis was causing unrest at the global level,” said Mr. Kikilias, mentioning that UBS upgraded its estimate for growth in Greece from 4% to 5.7% , with tourism expected to be the main driver of GDP.
He also reiterated that “we will make a fund at the end of 2022”, pointing out that the extension of the tourist season was one of the main goals achieved in terms of the start of the season, while, as he said, all the necessary actions have been taken, so that its expiration comes as later as possible.
“The messages we receive from the tour operators are very encouraging, there is a demand for travel packages for the whole autumn and even for December. And because it is crucial to always be one step ahead, we have long since started contacts with the aim of attracting Northern European and German pensioners to spend these months in Greece where the winter is sweet and the energy needs are much lower compared to their countries . In this way they will save the money they would pay for heating if they stayed at home and at the same time they will have the opportunity to enjoy the beauties of our country and get to know Greek hospitality”, said the Minister of Tourism.
