Measures to save energy in the State are presented in a joint press conference by the Minister of the Interior, Makis Voridis, the Minister of Environment and Energy, Kostas Skrekas and the Deputy Minister of Finance, Theodoros Skylakakis. The presentation is coordinated by the deputy minister to the prime minister and government representative, Yiannis Economou.

According to Kostas Skrekas, amedium measures to reduce energy consumption by 10% and in the long term to reduce to 30% by 2030.

Also, there will be digital monitoring of energy consumption in the State, while one will be appointed to each service “energy manager” for the control of buildings and facilities, with a series of similar tasks.

In addition, the government will establish incentives and disincentives to achieve the targets.

Mr. Skrekas also made recommendations to the employees – such as not to use the air conditioners unnecessarily and to turn off the lights when leaving the service – while also announcing that on Monday 12/9 the platform of the “Electra” program for the energy upgrade of public buildings with a budget of 640 million euros.

Similar recommendations and incentives will be announced in the next period for the private sector and households.

Mr. Skylakakis in turn, among others, stated that as long as the goals – especially for street lighting – are not achieved, the state will not financially support the Municipalities in the next period.

Also, those services that achieve a 15% reduction will be financially supported by an additional 5%.

Faced with rising energy prices, EU countries are taking measures both for the household and business relief, as well as for saving energy.

In Italy for example, one of the measures concerns the regulation of thermostats in public buildings at 19 ° Celsius, one degree lower than in the past.

At Germany the first measures have already been implemented and include, among other things, a maximum temperature in public buildings at 19 degrees Celsius, the abolition of heating in corridors and stairwells, while monuments and public buildings will no longer be illuminated at night.

In Austria on the other hand, it was announced that Vienna will keep the famous Christmas lanterns in the historic center off, while the outdoor Christmas markets will be lit an hour later than last year.
