Intercity bus companies once again hired employees in the final stretch of the year with the resumption of tourism, according to Abrati (Brazilian Association of Land Transport Companies for Passengers).
The sector employed 78 thousand drivers before the pandemic and laid off 39 thousand last year. Projections by the companies suggest that it will be possible to hire more than 20,000 employees this year and reopen the other vacancies by 2022.
LetÃcia Pineschi, the association’s advisor, says that the priority is to rehire former employees to take advantage of their experience with vehicles and security protocols and customer service
According to her, it has been difficult to find qualified drivers for the job, which requires a driver’s license in category D and a specialized course for drivers of collective passenger vehicles.
