Economist André Lara Resende, one of the formulators of the Real Plan, will declare support for the candidacy of former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) at an event this Tuesday (27th) alongside the PT candidate.
“It is clear to me that the support and vote for Lula in the first round is very important. It is to bring back the civilized democratic state,” said the economist to Sheet.
According to him, a victory for Lula is the reestablishment of the country on the international scene, from an environmental, democratic and cultural point of view. “Brazil is heading towards being scorched earth if the current government continues.”
The economist declined to comment on whether this support signals a shift in economic policy towards the center in an eventual Lula government.
Former President Lula will meet with intellectuals this Tuesday. Former minister Aloizio Mercadante, coordinator of the government plan for the Lula-Alckmin ticket, is one of the organizers of the meeting.
There is an effort by the ex-president’s team to get support from names not aligned with the PT, in an attempt to attract the undecided and the useful vote of voters of the pedetista Ciro Gomes and Simone Tebet (MDB).
In recent days, Lula’s campaign has seen a number of public figures announce their support for the PT candidate in the first round.
Among them, former minister Henrique Meirelles and former senator Cristovam Buarque, who participated in an act with Lula on Monday (19), and lawyer and professor Miguel Reale Jr., author of the impeachment request that resulted in the impeachment of the former president.
