Economy Minister Paulo Guedes said this Wednesday (28) that Brazil’s economy could grow more than China’s for the first time in 42 years. In an interview with Jovem Pan radio, the minister also said that the government has an MP (Provisional Measure) ready to encourage the manufacture of semiconductors in the country.
On Tuesday, the World Bank cut its forecast for China’s economic growth to 2.8%, a significant slowdown from the bank’s previous forecast of 5%.
In Brazil, the Ministry of Economy’s current forecast for 2022 GDP is at 2.7%, but Guedes has said he expects a rise of up to 3%. The market, according to the latest Focus survey, estimates that the economy will grow by 2.67% in 2022.
Regarding the national production of semiconductors, the minister mentioned in the interview with the Pânico program a possible MP to install factories in the country, but did not detail the measure. He only mentioned tax incentives for the sector, such as the Income Tax exemption.
Bottlenecks in the production of these electronic components have created difficulties for industries all over the world, including Brazil.
Guedes again questioned research that pointed to the existence of 33 million people going hungry in Brazil, classifying the study as fake news. According to him, the government found 38 million people invisible during the pandemic and is “giving money to everyone”.
He also stated that former President Lula has his merits in the fight against poverty, but said that it was the Jair Bolsonaro government responsible for tripling social transfers in AuxÃlio Brasil.
