Mr. Skrekas explained that 15 countries now support Greece’s proposal

There must be a horizontal ceiling on natural gas prices and there is a specific mechanism to do this, so that the prices in Europe are in line with the prices in America, Asia and Australia, Energy Minister Kostas Skrekas told SKAI ahead of tomorrow’s meeting of European energy ministers.

Mr. Skrekas explained that Greece’s proposal is now supported by 15 countries, of which the 4 big ones, such as Italy, France, Spain and Poland, and this means that we have the qualified majority to ask the committee to submit officially its proposal for the request of these countries

Regarding the member states that do not agree, he stated that many express their objection out of fear and noted that the aim of our proposal is not to leave the flows from Europe. He noted, however, that Europe cannot pay the price of natural gas up to 100% more than the other continents.

Referring to tomorrow’s Council of Energy Ministers, Mr. Skrekas stated that it will have a flavor of Greece as the taxation of the surplus profits of energy companies will be discussed.

In other words, the Greek mechanism adopted by Europe and our country has been applying since July with amazing results.

He even made it known that of the 1.1 billion that will be given in October as aid to consumers, one billion comes from the recovery of excess revenues and only 100 million from the state budget.

Referring to the countries that have doubts due to fear, he emphasized that they are finally following the Greek steps like Germany which also announced a profit tax.

Mr. Skrekas stated that Europe must respond to the Greek proposal because otherwise it will not be able to survive the winter.

Europe may be late but in the end it is making the right decisions. This is what we are fighting for, we have hopes, said the minister.
