Apple vice president Tony Blevins is stepping down, the company said on Thursday, without elaborating.
The move comes after a video of the executive making a sexist comment about women went viral on social media. Bloomberg first reported on Blevins’ departure.
In a video on TikTok posted this month, Blevins can be heard saying, “I own fancy cars, play golf and pet big-breasted women, but I take weekends and important holidays off” in response to a question about his occupation.
Blevins was approached by TikTok content creator Daniel Mac at a car show as part of a series of videos in which Mac asks luxury car owners their occupations.
Bloomberg reported that Blevins appeared to be referencing an almost identical line spoken by the main character in the 1981 film “Arthur”.
Apple did not comment on the reason for Blevins’ departure. Reuters attempts to contact Blevins for comment were unsuccessful. Bloomberg quoted a statement from Blevins in which the executive apologized for taking offense at what he called a “misguided attempt at humor.”
Blevins, Apple’s vice president, played an important role in the company’s supply chain operations.
His job involved lining up two to six suppliers for each of the thousands of components in Apple’s products and inducing disputes to get Apple the best prices.
