Kostis Hatzidakis: Responds to the “fire” of the opposition for the “unemployed police”

“Three jobs, three refusals and deletion from the Registers are the Unemployment Police?” asks the post of the Minister of Labor

The position of the government regarding the changes to the DYPA benefits (OAED) is stated by the Minister of Labor, Kostis Hatzidakis, in his post on Facebook.

The minister, responding to the “shots” of the opposition, who speaks of “unemployed police”, expresses the question: “Let someone answer me: Would you consider ‘unemployed police’ a system based on which an unemployed person is deleted from the DYPA Registers ( OAED) when he is offered 3 suitable jobs for him and rejects all 3? Do you think that this system is unfair and punitive, as SYRIZA and various ‘commentators’ on Twitter accuse us of?”

The Minister of Labour states that the new system was adopted with the “Jobs Again” law and now after the issuance of the individual decisions it will be implemented.

“The unemployed person, who declares his profile details to DYPA anyway, will be offered jobs corresponding to his studies and his route and close to his place of residence. Not just any job found in the archives of DYPA! Not without criteria like those mentioned above. This is how it happens almost all over Europe! That’s what we’ll do too. Is it unreasonable? It is unfair; Is it anti-social?’ he wonders and adds:

“A similar provision had been enacted in our country since 1955, but remained inactive. Because no government had implemented it for fear of the notorious political cost. But there are costs to governments when they do not apply common sense rules. And that’s when they really face society. We will therefore move forward with this arrangement, knowing that both the vast majority of society and the unemployed themselves who are interested in finding work support it. As they also support the other regulation that we will immediately implement: The other benefits of DYPA (special scoring in ASEP competitions, Social Tourism, discount policy for transportation, theaters, etc.) to cover those registered in the Registers of the former OAED who meet the criteria corresponding to those applicable to the heating allowance. No registered unemployed as was the case until now with incomes of 40,000-50,000 euros. (With an income for example over 30,0000 euros according to their declaration, there were 12,949 registered of which 1,232 for over 10 years).

The government obviously prioritizes employment. After all, with our own policy, unemployment has been reduced from 17.5% – which we inherited – to 12.5%. This was thanks to the measures we adopted to reduce taxation. The reduction of employers’ and employees’ insurance contributions. The simplification of licensing. The new Law on Labor Protection that successfully balances between the protection of workers and the strengthening of competitiveness. We are continuing the effort with an ambitious program to boost the skills of workers and the unemployed, especially digital skills. However, it is one thing to effectively support employment and another to reward unfair practices that neither the unemployed who are actually looking for work nor society as a whole want.

We are therefore moving forward by implementing a modern European employment policy. Without fear of the reactions of all those who simply regurgitate slogans of the past. A social policy with results!”.
