Opinion – Time machines: Fiat Strada gains automatic transmission and is closer to passenger cars

by

Born as a utility vehicle used for work, Fiat Strada is closer to the urban consumer who buys a pickup truck as a passenger car. After the double cabin and the four-door bodywork, the new move in this direction is the adoption of automatic transmission.

It is not, however, a pioneering spirit. In the 1980s, Chevrolet offered an automatic transmission on the Chevy 500 pickup. In addition, Renault has already offered this type of transmission on the Duster Oroch.

The CVT transmission, which debuted on the Pulse, comes with a 1.3 engine with 109 hp when fueled with ethanol. It will only be available in the Volcano version, for R$ 111,990, and in the new top-of-the-line version, the Ranch, for R$ 116,990.

The brand’s idea is not to invade Toro’s price range, your average pickup truck.

The version features visual modifications, such as roof bars, side stirrups, black mirrors, mixed-use tires and a brown interior finish. Another novelty is the wireless cell phone charger, which will be available in both automatic options.
