SA Panel: State secretaries say nursing floor is unbearable for finances

by

Conass (National Council of Health Secretaries) took a new alert to the STF (Federal Supreme Court) on Friday (14) to express concern that the national nursing floor will cause an avalanche in public spending and affect the SUS , with the mass dismissal of employees.

According to Conass, the impact of salary increases is financially unbearable by the states. Based on data from December 2021, the total projected cost with the almost 800 thousand employees of the category in the states and municipalities is R$ 54 billion.

The council states that the cash situation has been “systematically more aggravated” with the impact caused by the change in taxation in branches such as electricity and fuel, which reduces the collection of states. The impact could reach R$ 30 billion a year, for health and education, says Conass.

Hospitals will have to choose between remunerating their employees or promoting technological and installation improvements to serve the population, according to the council.

Conass says that it also sent a statement to the Ministries of Economy and Health requesting information on the budgetary support for the payment of salaries, but received no response.

The nursing salary floor was approved by Congress and sanctioned by President Bolsonaro in August. The rule was suspended in the STF while the funding sources are discussed.
