It will not be a government of the PT, but of the Brazilian people, says Lula alongside Meirelles, Persio Arida and Tebet

Former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) stated that, if he is elected, his term will not be “a PT government, it will be a government of the Brazilian people.”

“Our government will not be a PT government. It is important, Gleisi [Hoffmann]you who are president, know: we need to make a government beyond the PT”, said Lula.

“There are many people who were never part of the PT and participated in my government. And it will be like that. It will not be a PT government, it will be a government of the Brazilian people”, he continued.

In a demonstration of the breadth of his government, he mentioned the names of people who were part of his government, such as Henrique Meirelles, businessman Luiz Fernando Furlan, executive Miguel Jorge and Marcio Thomaz Bastos.

Lula participated in an act, alongside the PT candidate for the Government of São Paulo, Fernando Haddad, with supporters on Monday night (24) at the Tuca Theater, at the PUC (Pontifical Catholic University) in São Paulo.

Names such as the economist Persio Arida, one of the fathers of the Real Plan, the former Minister of Finance and former President of the Central Bank Henrique Meirelles, the former Minister of Justice José Gregori (government Fernando Henrique Cardoso), the former Senator Marta Suplicy and sociologist Neca Setubal, heiress of Itaú.

“They didn’t know what we know: that the parallels occasionally cross each other. And when they cross, it gets out of the way that we are invincible”, said Gregori.

Meirelles criticized those who say that Lula is presenting a “blank check” for his proposals in the area of the economy – and said that, in fact, it is Bolsonaro who asks for a “blank check”.

“It’s Bolsonaro who blew the fiscal part, took inflation to the moon. That’s wanting a blank check. Lula, no. His check is signed. said.

Arida said that it is necessary to elect Lula and Haddad and establish in Brazil “a broad front against obscurantism and the civilizational setback that Bolsonaro is leading the country.” He also stated that what is at stake in this election “is much more than the economy: it is the future of Brazil”.

A video testimony of former STF (Federal Supreme Court) Minister Joaquim Barbosa was shown.

Lula opened his speech by saying that this is a “decisive week”. “Anyone who doubts the importance of people regaining and practicing democracy can no longer have doubts,” she said.

The PT candidate cited cases of racism involving singer Seu Jorge, the cursing of former federal deputy Roberto Jefferson (PTB) against Minister Cármen Lucia, of the STF, and the statement by President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) that he “painted a climate” with Venezuelan girls. Lula referred to Jefferson as a “bandit”.

“Last week the President of the Republic confused a 14-year-old Venezuelan girl as if she were a sexual object,” he said, his voice breaking. “He in a position of president to have the pedophile attitude he had, not respecting a 14-year-old child.”

Lula said that he has fiscal responsibility and that he does not need a law to deal with it. “Meirelles knows that we had fiscal responsibility. We had and will continue to have because we cannot play with a country”.

The PT member also said that it is not possible “for us to begin to see governance in this country only in terms of the fiscal issue”.

In his speech, Haddad appealed to his supporters to make an effort to guarantee his victory, a turning point, in the dispute for Palácio dos Bandeirantes – the PT finished the first round behind Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), a candidate supported by Bolsonaro.

“Lula is ahead and we need to consolidate his leadership to be a shower on Sunday at Bolsonaro. But if we make a little more effort (…), I guarantee you, if you make this effort in the final stretch, the wave is coming, it’s beating, the wind is blowing.”

Senator Simone Tebet (MDB), third place in the first round, was applauded when she arrived at the theater. The organization of the act even announced that she was on her way at least three times. “Is it to ask for votes? I’m ready”, said the parliamentarian as she took the stage.

“Now is not the time for omission. Omission, the neutrality of omission is a cardinal sin against the Brazilian people. Those who voted blank can only vote for 13, those who voted null can only vote for 13, those who voted for Ciro can only vote for 13, and whoever voted for Simone has to vote for 13 in these elections.”

She also said that Bolsonaro is an autocrat who “in a second term would install a white dictatorship” in the country.
