Kostas Skrekas pointed out during his intervention at the Council of Energy Ministers of the EU that Greece supports the mechanism of common markets, through the single market platform for natural gas

The need to specify immediately, within the next few days, on the part of the European Commission, the measures included in the decisions of the European Council in Prague was underlined by Minister of Environment and Energy Kostas Skrekas during his intervention at the Council of Energy Ministers of the European Union, held today, Tuesday, October 25, in Luxembourg.

During the Council, the proposals for joint interventions by the member states were discussed, with the aim of dealing with high energy prices and ensuring the energy sufficiency of the EU. ahead of winter.

Mr. Skrekas emphasized that Greece supports the common market mechanism, through the single natural gas market platform, while he expressed his agreement with the proposal of the European Commission to entrust the Association of Energy Regulatory Authorities of the E.U. (ACER) establishing an alternative price index for LNG imports.

Mr. Skrekas, speaking first during the Council, said: “The large reductions observed in the prices of natural gas and the TTF are due to the fact that markets are discounting that Europe will take action and impose a cap. Now is the time to move forward with concrete initiatives, as the EU’s supply sufficiency has been largely ensured, thanks to the rapid filling of natural gas storages which have exceeded 90% on average. We also consider as very positive the measure of imposing a “cutter” which will limit intraday price volatility in the TTF, thus limiting the risk of speculation.

Finally, the Council’s common position was agreed on the revision of the Energy Performance of Buildings (EPBD) proposal, as part of the ‘Fit for 55’ package, which sets the ambitious vision of decarbonising the building stock by in 2050.

The Minister of Environment and Energy expressed his satisfaction with the Council’s position, given that it recognizes national specificities and provides Member States with the necessary flexibility to improve the energy efficiency of their building stock. He also referred to the policy implemented by Greece for the energy upgrade of its buildings, with the implementation of programs such as “Save – Business”, for small and medium-sized enterprises, “Save 2021” for households and “Elektra”, for Public sector.
