More space in the Budget, reduced taxes, easy access to credit and even a new secretariat directly linked to the Presidency of the Republic. President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) is still two months away from taking command of the country, but the list of requests from business associations has already begun.
Sectors such as bars and restaurants, supermarkets, banks, telecommunications and even agribusiness welcome the new president, elected this Sunday (30). But the wish list is now ready.
“The solution to social and economic problems involves the construction industry”, says José Carlos Martins, president of the CBIC (Brazilian Chamber of the Construction Industry), for whom the sector needs to receive more space in the federal budget. According to him, the government of President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) has generated more than 500,000 new jobs in the sector.
“But there was a lack of housing for the poorest population, which is at the base of the Casa Verde Amarela program”, says Martins.
In the opinion of Paulo Solmucci Jr., president of Abrasel (Brazilian Association of Bars and Restaurants), it is urgent to simplify access to credit lines for the sector, but without creating dependency.
“The regulatory excess ends up making us dependent on support that we want to be transitory,” he said. “Help must be punctual, not welfare, to help create a robust middle class, formed not only by entrepreneurs, but by those who work in small businesses.”
In a note, Febraban (Brazilian Federation of Banks) stated that “it is available to collaborate with the new government.”
The text says that, in recent months, Febraban promoted meetings with candidates and their teams to discuss topics involving “sustainable economic growth, greater social justice and improvement of the business environment.”
“We deal with inflation control, fiscal responsibility, maintenance of the Central Bank’s autonomy, prioritizing tax and administrative reforms, attracting investments and measures aimed at reducing the cost of credit for consumers”, the note states.
Abras (Brazilian Association of Supermarkets) claims to have the expectation of strengthening the partnership with the federal government and defended the “free market economy.”
“The supermarket sector wishes the whole team that will be formed much success and hopes that these next four years will be fruitful, improving the living conditions of our population, strengthening the economy and peace for our society, in all its social scope” , says the text.
Marcos Ferrari, executive president of Conexis Brasil Digital, reinforces that the sector needs actions that encourage private investments and “help expand the population’s access to telecom services”.
Among the proposals are “the creation of a program to connect low-income families to the internet via tax exemption and direct subsidy to the population; the need for fairer taxation; the exemption from PIS/Cofins of the entire 5G infrastructure and services chain ; regulatory simplification and isonomy in the face of the new balance of the digital ecosystem with the incentive to self-regulation of the sector; and the creation of a Special Secretariat for Digital Transformation, linked to the Presidency of the Republic”, says the note.
Agribusiness expects “smooth” management
Fábio de Salles Meirelles, president of the Faesp/Senar-SP system (Federation of Agriculture and Livestock of the State of São Paulo and National Service for Rural Learning) stated, in a note, that he respects democracy “above all.”
Regarding the elected president, he hopes that he “continues to carry out continuous actions and permanent work for the prosperity of rural producers”. Meirelles also highlighted the role of Lula’s deputy, Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), to allow the sector to advance “even more, without any setback.”
“The legitimate respect of coming and going, the right to private property, the guarantee of food security, sustainable development, the leading role recognized in our country and in the world, in addition to technological innovation, are no longer guidelines, but consolidated realities and advances” , says the note. “May we go on smoothly.”
Feninfra (National Federation of Call Center, Installation and Maintenance of Telecommunications and IT Network Infrastructure) says it expects Lula to continue encouraging the development of the telecommunications sector, “especially in the implementation of 5G technology, as occurred in the current administration” , according to the note signed by Vivien Mello Suruagy, president of the entity.
The executive highlights that heavy investments in infrastructure are necessary for digital connectivity to take place, including in the most vulnerable regions, which should require a reduction in the tax burden of the sector.
Judge Artur Marques, president of AFPESP (Association of Public Employees of the State of São Paulo), highlighted, in a note, that Sunday’s election confirmed the absolute fairness of the electoral process, “definitely discrediting the daily attacks suffered in recent years , which seemed to sound like preparation for a nameless, never-ending riot.”
The magistrate highlighted the performance of Minister Alexandre de Moraes, president of the TSE (Superior Electoral Court), in conducting the electoral process. “The popular endorsement of the system relied on the promptness, firmness and courage of ministers of the Federal Supreme Court, who temporarily occupy the chairs of the Superior Electoral Court.”
