Effective from Wednesday the household basket – What products are on the list

The “household basket” comes into effect the day after tomorrow, Wednesday, November 2 after the signing of the Ministerial Decision by the Minister of Development & Investments, Mr. Adonis Georgiadis.

As provided for in the Ministerial Decision, pursuant to Article 87 of Law 4986/2022, food and other product hypermarkets that carry out retail activities (super markets) with an annual turnover of more than 90,000,000 euros per year are required to send to the Ministry of Development & Investments a list of consumer products (“household basket”) that are necessary for a decent living and in particular at least one product from the following 51 categories of products included in the “household basket”:

2 Bread for toast
3 Loaf of bread (standard/packaged)
4 toasts
5 Spaghetti No. 6
6 All purpose flour
7 Legumes (at least one type)
8 Turkey and/or paris
9 Frozen fish
10 Fresh pork (packaged or not)
11 Fresh chicken (packaged or not)
12 Fresh whole milk
13 Fresh low-fat milk
14 Evaporated milk
15 Unflavored cow’s milk yogurt
16 Unflavored low-fat cow’s milk yogurt
17 Sliced ​​feta cheese
18 Gouda cheese
19 Low-fat cheese
20 Preserved tomato juice
21 Eggs (cage and barn)
22 Margarines
23 Virgin olive oil
24 Sunflower oil
25 Frozen vegetables (at least one of peas, okra, green beans)

The list of consumer products must be sent on a weekly basis, every Wednesday by 9:00 a.m. The sending of the list of products for businesses that are obliged to send data to the electronic platform e-katanalotis will take place through the platform e-katanalotis. For the rest of the companies, the catalogs are sent by list to the email address [email protected].

Informing the consumer public about the products participating in the “household basket” initiative can also be done through a special mark placed on the products or in their physical or electronic sales area or in any means by which the products are advertised in the consumer.

Businesses participating in the “household basket” initiative can obtain access to the special badge by sending a request to the email address [email protected]. The use of the special mark of par. 1 by businesses that do not participate in the “household basket” initiative is prohibited. Businesses that violate the aforementioned prohibition are subject to administrative sanctions, in accordance with Article 13a of Law 2251/1994.

The competent authority for the control of the implementation of the “consumer’s basket” is defined as the Directorate for Data Management, Statistics and Electronic Commerce Supervision of the Interagency Market Control Unit (D.M.E.A.). Sanctions for non-sending or incomplete sending of a list of products by the debtors (administrative fine of 5,000 euros for each day of delay in sending a complete list) are imposed by decision of the Governor of DIMEA. The decision to impose a fine can be appealed before the administrative courts, within the prescribed period.
The imposed sanctions are collected in accordance with the Public Revenue Collection Code (K.E.D.E.) and attributed to the state budget.
