Mônica Bergamo: Movimento Sem Teto will send thousands of militants to unblock roads

by

The Homeless Workers Movement (MTST) will send thousands of militants to the roads blocked by Bolsonaristas to remove the barricades that prevent the passage of cars.

The movement, which has among its coordinators elected federal deputy Guilherme Boulos (PSOL-SP), says it decided to take action after seeing that the blockades are happening “with the complacency” of the Federal Highway Police (PRF), under the command of the government of Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

“We hope to be as well received by the security forces as the Bolsonaristas are being”, says the MTST.

The column found that the militants are being instructed not to clash with Bolsonaristas, but to remove the materials they placed on the roads to prevent vehicle traffic.

In a note approved this Tuesday (1st), the movement states that “since Sunday, we have observed in the country blockages that contest the electoral result and ask for military intervention. Such protests happen with the complacency of security forces, such as the PRF”.

And it goes on: “Given this fact, the national coordination of the MTST guides its militancy in the states to organize demonstrations to unblock the main access routes, demanding respect for the electoral result. We hope to be as well received by the security forces as the Bolsonaristas are being .”

Bolsonaristas blocked more than 200 points on roads and even prevented access to Guarulhos airport, in São Paulo, the largest in the country. Flights have already been cancelled.

The PRF remained inert, and the police even fraternized with the Bolsonaristas.

The Federal Supreme Court (STF) has already ordered the PRF to unblock the roads, and Minister Alexandre de Moraes has already authorized the PM to act.

STF judges blame Bolsonaro for the riots. In silence since he was defeated by Lula (PT) in the presidential campaign, the president would be, with his attitude, encouraging confusion.

The PRF’s omission reinforced the certainty that the president works to raise tensions in the country.

Read the full MTST note:

“In the last four years, we have seen in Brazil the construction of an authoritarian and fascist government. There have been countless demonstrations of disrespect for democratic principles, with attacks on the press, the free right to demonstrate, institutions and the electoral system.

Since Sunday, we have seen blockages in the country that challenge the electoral result and call for military intervention. Such protests take place with the complacency of security forces such as the PRF.

We at MTST have always been on the streets fighting for legitimate social rights such as housing and food. Many of these times we were met with shots, bombs, assaults and arrests.

Faced with this fact, the MTST’s national coordination guides its militancy in the states to organize demonstrations to unlock the main access routes, demanding respect for the electoral result. We hope to be as well received by the security forces as the Bolsonaristas are being.”
