Fuel sector sees risk of shortages and asks SC and PR for attention

by

The largest fuel distributors in the country warn of the risk of shortages of gas stations with the maintenance of roadblocks due to undemocratic Bolsonarist acts. The sector requires special attention for Santa Catarina, Paraná and the surroundings of the Paulínia Refinery, in São Paulo.

The blockades already cause a lack of products at stations in at least five states and the Federal District, according to unions that bring together resellers. The problem is mainly caused by difficulties in delivering anhydrous ethanol and biodiesel, which are blended into gasoline and diesel.

“With the current scenario of demonstrations in several regions of the country maintained, with total and partial road blocks, the IBP (Brazilian Institute of Oil and Gas) expresses concern about the risk of shortages”, said the institute that brings together large distributors, such as Vibra (ex-BR), Raízen and Ipiranga.

Regarding automotive fuels, the situation is more critical in Santa Catarina and Paraná, since the refinery that serves both states, located in Araucária (PR), is stopped for maintenance, and protesters closed the main import routes from other States.

In fact, Santa Catarina was the first state to report a lack of fuel at gas stations, even on Monday night (31). The state has a strong Bolsonarista base, which has made it difficult to clear the blocked roads.

The concern with Paulínia is related to the production of aviation kerosene to supply airlines, he told Sheet the director of the IBP responsible for the segment, Valéria Lima.

She said that the sector met with the Ministries of Mines and Energy and Infrastructure on Monday night, but still does not see a coordination effort to ensure the transport of products.

“The IBP reinforces the need for coordinated action by the authorities aimed at unlocking roads, including the formation of logistical corridors, with the protection of public security agencies, in the most critical stretches”, says the institute, in a note released this Tuesday. .

To avoid diesel shortages, the distributors will propose to the government to make the biodiesel blend more flexible, currently at 10%, since the logistics of the product are carried out by road and the production centers are located in the Midwest.

Lima also says that the IBP is studying the feasibility of asking for flexibility in mixing anhydrous ethanol with gasoline, currently at 27%. But any proposal in this sense depends on evaluations of the performance of the engines.
