Anti-democratic protesters adopt ‘yo-yo strategy’ in Castelo Branco

by

Police from the Shock Squad monitor this Tuesday (1st) the anti-democratic demonstration at km 26 of Castelo Branco highway, in Barueri (SP), where they are waiting for the release of a second lane for traffic.

About 400 people remain at the site. The movement’s leadership has already agreed to release the second track, which has not yet occurred.

In the late afternoon, the presence of children in the coup protest made the Military Highway Police of São Paulo change its strategy. Accompanied by their parents, many are right at the beginning of the blockade, in front of the place where the TV cameras are positioned. Some use whistles and dress with the Brazilian flag.

During the negotiations, protesters pointed out the presence of children and elderly people in the place.

According to the report, the movement’s leadership has adopted a “yo-yo strategy”. In the presence of the Shock Troop, part of the protesters disperses and banners are released to avoid confrontation. Then, without the police, the orientation is to block more lanes again.

Castelo has blocked points since Monday (31). In the late morning of this Tuesday, the police received an order to clear the act in Barueri. At around 12:30 pm, the Shock Troop was called. Rubber bullets and tear gas were used and the protesters dispersed. However, they returned to focus a few meters ahead.

“The protesters proposed to release two lanes and we are going to negotiate to release the third and, little by little, return to normality,” said Major Tarifa, a spokesman for the Shock Troop. He says the police will remain at the scene Tuesday night to prevent further blockades.

Asked if the leadership was using the presence of children and the elderly to avoid confrontation, the major said: “No. They can demonstrate. It is their right. They cannot prevent other people’s right to come and go. try to equalize these two rights so that everyone can exercise their rights, to come and go and to demonstrate”.

Supporters of Jair Bolsonaro (PL) occupy roads across the country against the result of Sunday’s elections, which elected Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) to the presidency of Brazil. Many of them are calling for a military coup to forcibly reverse the results of the polls. In Sunday’s vote (30), Lula had 60.3 million votes, against 58.2 million for Bolsonaro.

The protesters in Castelo chant against Lula and the press.
